The City, Woodland Tree Foundation, and West Coast Arborists, Inc. are partnering to host a community Arbor Day event on Saturday, March 15 beginning at 8:30 AM at Rick Gonzales, Sr. Park. Participants will walk a short distance to County Road 25A where the celebration and tree planting will be held. The short program will include instructions on proper tree planting and care.
After the opening program, volunteers will break up into groups to assist with planting approximately 50 trees. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and bring shovels and gloves if they have them. No experience necessary.
In addition, Woodland is proud to host state and local partners to kickoff California Arbor Week, a statewide celebration highlighting the importance of trees, at a press conference and ceremonial tree planting on Monday, March 10 at 11 AM also in Rick Gonzales, Sr. Park. This event, led by the Woodland Tree Foundation in partnership with the City, California ReLeaf, Cal Fire, Edison International, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, and Blue Shield of California, demonstrates Woodland’s statewide leadership in urban forestry and sustainable investments.
Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Each year, the City celebrates Arbor Day to recognize the community benefits of trees and our community’s heritage as the “City of Trees.” Trees provide a wide range of benefits, including energy use reduction, air quality improvements, storm water interception, sequestered atmospheric Carbon Dioxide, and increased property values.
