Subject:Firefighters prepare for increased fire danger and heat related illnesses as temperatures soar past the century mark.
Contact:Battalion Chief Eric Zane, (530)661-5860

Excessive heat has been forecasted for the entire Sacramento Valley, including the City of Woodland from Friday through Sunday.  Residents can expect temperatures to soar well above 100 degrees with little overnight cooling. Battalion Chief Eric Zane advised “As firefighters prepare for a higher threat of fires and medical emergencies related to the heat, we would like to take the opportunity to remind our residents of the following”;

  • The general population has yet to acclimate to such high temperatures, making everyone more susceptible to heat related illnesses.
  • All residents, especially sensitive groups should limit outdoor activities and exposure to the heat. Everyone is encouraged to hydrate well and wear clothing appropriate for high temperatures.
  • Children and animals should not be left unattended in vehicles, as temperatures in vehicles can be well over 120 degrees.

“The Woodland Fire Department would also ask that anyone who is going mow weeds or dead grass refrain from doing so during peak temperatures, as any spark will likely start a fire” Stated Battalion Chief Zane.

Although no official cooling centers will be opened, the Woodland Library and Community/ Senior Center will be open during normal business hours for residents to escape the heat.
