DOWNTOWN WOODLAND WAS BUZING WITH ACTIVITY DURING THE JUNE 24TH YOLO GROWERS & FARMWORKERS FESTIVAL

The City of Woodland and Dinner on Main hosted the first Yolo Growers and Farmworkers Festival to celebrate the faces behind our food & ag industryDespite the toasty weather, around 3,000 community members lined Main Street throughout the evening to enjoy live entertainment, food, and resource booths.
Dancing horses and a trick roper added an additional entertainment element to festive music from three local bandas. Event participants also had access to resource booths from eight local organizations specializing in resources related to food security, education, healthcare, and more.
Beyond the festival, two parallel initiatives have been organized by the City and Dinner on Main, both geared at providing direct assistance to farmworkers and their families. Firstly, through American Rescue Plan funding, Yolo County granted $4,000 to distribute to 200 Yolo County farmworkers. Furthermore, the City of Woodland provided an additional $1,520 to reach a grand total of 276 farmworkers through this program. These funds were distributed to farmworkers from four Yolo County Farms: M Three Ranches, Muller Ranch, Fully Belly Farm, and Durst Organic Growers in the form of meal vouchers, redeemable at participating Downtown Woodland restaurants until July 24th. Secondly, in the coming weeks, Yolo Food Bank will carry out food distribution to over 350 farmworkers at River Garden Farms, Durst Organic Growers, and Muller Ranch. Farmworkers will receive boxes filled with fresh produce, rice, and beans. The City of Woodland was proud to host this first-of-its-kind family-friendly event within our region to boost awareness of and appreciation for our food and ag industry’s workforce. We look forward to celebrating our farmworkers again next year!
