Sustainability Advisory Committee News

The committee will be holding their next meeting on March 15 at 6pm.

Free Compost

Free Compost at the Yolo County Landfill

The Yolo County Central Landfill is offering free compost to all Yolo County residents – excluding businesses and landscapers –  from March 1 – April 30. No appointment is needed; however, they require proof of residency such as a driver's license or utility bill.


Yolo County Central Landfill is located at 44090 County Rd 28H. Hours of operation are Monday – Saturday, from 6:30 am to 4 pm, and on Sundays from 8 am – 4 pm. Please bring a shovel and bags to load the compost yourself. For more info, visit YoloCounty.org/Landfill.

Clean Ari Art Contest

Calling All Student Artists

The Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District is now accepting entries for the 2023 Clean Air Art Contest. This annual contest is open to all Kindergarten through 12th grade students that live or attend school in Yolo County and the northeastern portion of Solano County including Vacaville, Dixon and Rio Vista. 


1st through 3rd place winners will be chosen in each grade category (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12) and will receive a Certificate of Achievement, recognition in a future press release, and an Amazon gift card. Winning artwork will be featured in District outreach materials. For more information click here!

Bulky Waste

Bulky Vouchers are Coming

While you’re planning your spring cleaning, don’t forget to use your bulky waste voucher for the Yolo County Landfill which will allow you to dispose of a truck bed’s worth of waste for free during the month of April! The postcard should be arriving in your mailbox in late March. 


If you have household items that are still in good condition that you no longer want, including non-upholstered furniture, you can donate it to the Big Blue Barn at the landfill daily.

Fix a Leak Week

March 20-26 is Fix-a-Leak Week 

Fix-a-Leak Week is just around the corner and we encourage water users to pay extra attention to their appliances to ensure they are working efficiently. Not sure where to start? Sign up for AquaHawk!

AquaHawk is the City's free water use dashboard and leak alert system. You can view your hourly and daily water consumption to look for abnormalities, and high water use patterns. Sign-up or log-in today at 
cityofwoodland.org/mywateruse to check if you have any hidden leaks.

Recycle

Don’t Throw Your Money Away!

Did you know that you can exchange all CA CRV eligible beverage containers, including fruit & vegetable juice, sports drinks, and pre-packaged coffee bottles, for money? As long as the container has a CA CRV symbol on it and is clean and dry, it can be taken to the one of the following locations for recycling:

  • Yolo Employment Services
    • 660 6th St
  • Solorzano Recycling @ Woodland Fuel Stop
    • 18430 Co. Rd. 102
  • Solorzano Recycling @ True Value
    • 345 W. Main. St.
  • Green Zone Recycling
    • 225 Industrial Way, Ste. C
