The following is a summary of key Spring Lake projects and their status.

Sports Park Drive Pedestrian Overcrossing

The project is nearing substantial completion, but some remediation items remain. These tasks, although minor, are crucial to ensuring the project meets the highest safety and quality standards.

While the bridge is generally open to the public, the contractor might temporarily close parts of the bridge or path.

We appreciate your patience during this final phase. The construction team is working diligently to address the remaining items promptly.

Spring Lake Park

Spring Lake Park is still under active construction. Sod has been installed and most of the plants are planted. Remaining work includes completing the playground and play surfacing. We anticipate the successful completion of the plant maintenance period this winter.

Rick Gonzales Sr. Park

The active construction at Rick Gonzales Sr. Park is complete and the maintenance period has begun. We anticipate the successful completion of the plant maintenance period in December.

Reminder: Plant Establishment & Maintenance Periods

Park construction contracts include a maintenance and establishment period. During this period, the contractor is required to maintain and monitor all landscape and irrigation to ensure the landscape plantings establish their root systems in a healthy, controlled environment. This is to guarantee that when the City takes ownership of the project areas, the plants are thriving and the irrigation system is fully operational.

To provide the proper environment for the plants to establish properly, the contractor fences off the park area and the site remains inaccessible to non-construction personnel and residents. During this time, we often receive complaints about the parks sitting with no work being performed as very little activity (primarily maintenance and minor remediation) occurs within the areas after this period starts.

Unfortunately, residents often violate this closure by taking down fencing and accessing the site. Entering these areas often causes damage that then needs to be repaired and further delays the park opening. Residents repeatedly removed fencing to access Jack Slaven Park and damaged landscape areas which then had to be repaired at the City’s cost.

In addition, please remember to clean up after your dog both in the existing park and the construction area.
