Tip of the Month

Rebates for mulch, rain barrels, and weather-based irrigation controllers are now closed for the FY 2024–25, but it’s not too late to benefit! Compost bin rebates are still available — a great way to reduce waste and enrich your soil. Now’s the perfect time to plan ahead: City of Woodland rebate funding refreshes July 1, 2025 and is available for purchases made after that date. These programs are popular and operate first-come, first-served, so mark your calendars and be ready to apply early to make the most of this valuable opportunity!

Free Compost at the Community Center

Free Compost is Back

The City of Woodland is offering free, daily self-serve compost at two convenient locations: Woodland Senior & Community Center and in the solar parking lot near City Hall on Court St and College St. This nutrient-rich compost is made from the food and green waste collected from your organics carts and processed at the Yolo County Landfill.

Bring your own tools and help yourself to as much compost as you need! Please be mindful of others and vehicles in the area. Piles will be replenished as needed.

We will periodically post updates on Facebook with information about when the next compost shipment will arrive.

Time to Spruce-Up Your Sprinkler

Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes an uptick in outdoor water use. Before you ramp up your watering efforts, make sure you spruce up your irrigation system. A little maintenance can go a long way. Remember these four simple tips:

  • Inspect for breaks and leaks. Missing or broken sprinkler heads can be hard to find because most irrigation systems run overnight or early in the morning.
  • Connect sprinklers, pipes, and valves. Leaks can occur at the joints between sprinklers and the piping. Leaking joints can also be a sign of too much water pressure or particles in the water.
  • Direct sprinklers for the best water coverage. Any sprinklers that are spraying onto driveways, sidewalks, or walls should be adjusted towards the landscape.
  • Select a smart weather-based irrigation controller (WBIC). A WBIC uses local weather data or monitors the level of moisture in the soil to automatically adjust your irrigation schedule
