Grazing for Good: Sheep Help Manage Storm Channels Naturally

Have you seen sheep grazing in various areas of woodland?

In 2025, the City of Woodland partnered with Integrazers to manage vegetation in our unlined storm channels using sheep grazing. This natural method helps reduce flood and fire risk, improves stormwater flow, and supports long-term channel stability by preserving root structures which protect against erosion. Unlike herbicides or burning, grazing services utilize a natural approach that minimizes harmful side effects and unintended consequences.

These pictures show the conditions before and after sheep grazing. What an amazing difference these sheep made!

Back-to-School Sustainability Tips

It is back to school season and whether you (or family) have begun or not– we have some great sustainability tips. First off, supplies are a key part of having a successful school year. With an overwhelming number of supplies offered at stores, it can be enticing to replenish your old supplies with new ones. Instead, review what supplies you already have and evaluate what you need. In terms of school bags, examine if your previous backpack can still serve its purpose. Consider options to wash it if needed or personalize it to keep it up to your liking. Finding more sustainable modes of transportation can be another positive step taken for the planet, too. Whether you walk, bike, take transit, or carpool, choosing a more sustainable option helps reduce carbon emissions. Happy back to school season!

Rain barrel in a garden

Save Water this September

As September brings cooler weather and a shift in routine, it's the perfect time to take a fresh look at your water use. Even simple actions like fixing leaky faucets, shortening shower times, and using a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways can make a difference. Small changes can lead to big savings for both your wallet and the environment.

You can also use our Rain Barrel Rebate and install a rain barrel to collect any autumn rainfall to be used for watering plants. Don’t forget to adjust your irrigation schedule as the days grow shorter, ensuring your garden gets just the right amount of water. Let’s make the most of every drop this fall.
