What are your New Year's Resolutions?

2019 is the year to make your home a little greener! Save energy by putting down the remote and snuggling up with a good book from the Woodland Public Library. Use a table lamp with an LED light bulb when reading instead of turning on overhead lighting. Change out any incandescent or CFL lights in your home to energy efficient LED light bulbs. Leaf Drop Season Ending

Leaf drop season ends on February 1, 2019, which means green waste street pile pickups will go back to monthly collection. Piles are limited to 5-foot long sections and may be placed in the street no more than 7 days prior to your scheduled pickup. To avoid possible penalties, please review the 2019 Green Waste Map & Schedule Flyer.

As a reminder, weekly Christmas tree street pickups will continue through February 1. Please place your tree curbside on your leaf pile pick up day, or cut your tree to 3-foot sections and place it in your organics recycling cart (brown lid). Trees with flocking, lights, tinsel, ornaments, tree stands or garland will not be accepted.

Only Rain Down the Storm Drain

Everything that enters storm drains flows untreated directly to our creeks, rivers, bays, and eventually the ocean. Pollutants, chemicals, trash, and automobile fluids that make it into storm drains can harm fish and wildlife and pollute the environment. Help keep waterways, fish and wildlife, and the environment safe and healthy by spreading the word, “only rain down the storm drain.” Don't forget to dispose of household hazardous waste for free at Yolo County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Days.

It's That Time of Year

As the rainy season comes into town make sure to turn off your irrigation system and allow nature to water your landscape for you. The City has two rebates that can help save you water this winter:

Consider getting a weather-based "Smart" Irrigation Controller! You can conserve up to 13,500 gallons of water per year, plus they automatically override schedules on rainy days. The City of Woodland offers a rebate of up to $150!
As it pours, store it for the future. Rain Barrels can help everyone save water and you can receive a rebate up to $75/each. (max 2 per utility account)

Big Blue Barn Thrift Store

Don’t miss the January opening of the Big Blue Barn Thrift Store where you’ll find gently-used furniture, electronics, children’s toys, bicycles and more! The store will be open on January 18 and 19 from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Yolo County Central Landfill (44090 County Road 28H, Woodland).

Did you know starting this month, restaurants will not give you a straw unless you ask for one?
Skip the plastic or get a reusable straw instead. Keep an eye out for our table at upcoming events this year to get your free reusable straws.
