Arbor Day Celebration and Tree Planting Rescheduled to March 9

City of Woodland News Posted on February 21, 2024

The City of Woodland, Woodland Tree Foundation, and Pacific Gas and Electric Company will partner to host an Arbor Day community-wide tree planting on Saturday, March 9 at 8:30 AM (rescheduled from March 2). A short program will be held at Crawford Park at 1733 College Street, including instructions on proper tree planting and care. City of Woodland Environmental Services staff will provide information on water conservation, green waste, composting, and other conservation-related topics. We thank PG&E for underwriting the costs of purchasing the trees that will be planted in the identified areas.

Volunteers will be broken up into groups to assist with the planting of approximately 100 trees. Groups will plant trees at Crawford, Tredway, and Traynham Parks. Volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and to bring shovels and gloves, although some supplies will be provided. No experience is necessary for this family-friendly event.

Arbor Day is a nationally-celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Each year, the City of Woodland celebrates Arbor Day in order to recognize the community benefits of trees and our heritage as “The City of Trees.” Trees provide a wide range of benefits for our community, including energy use reduction, air quality improvements, storm water interception, sequestered atmospheric Carbon Dioxide, and increased property values. Woodland’s 2018 Urban Forest Resource Analysis found that for every $1 invested in public trees, our community receives $2.51 in benefits.
