As of January 2022, all commercial entities (businesses and multi-family properties) are required to divert their organic waste from going to the landfill per the requirements of SB 1383. Businesses that meet the following criteria may qualify for an exemption and must file an organics exemption form annually:
Businesses not participating due to space constraints or minimal generation must apply for an Organics Waiver instead of an exemption form.
Green waste: landscape trimmings, grass clippings, non-treated wood, sawdust, etc.Food waste: food scraps, produce, expired food, food byproducts, leftovers, plate scrapings, etc.Compostable paper: paper towels, compostable paper plates, greasy pizza boxes, compostable bags/packaging, etc.
These materials are prohibited from being placed in the trash. If your business generates these materials, proof of recycling these items must be provided in the annual exemption reporting.
Note: To qualify for an organics exemption, all green waste, food waste, and compostable paper generated at your business must be included when self-hauling or using an alternative organics service. No organics may be placed in the trash.
Annual Report: Please fill out the fields below for each type of organics materials composted in the previous calendar year. Please convert pounds to tons (2,000 lbs = 1 ton). Records of self-hauling and alternative composting efforts (i.e. receipts, ledgers, etc.) must be maintained and turned in during the annual reporting period.
Note: Paying for alternative organics hauling services breaches the City of Woodland's exclusive Franchise with WM. All organics hauled from your business by an alternative hauler must be donated or sold.
NEW 2024: To be approved to continue in the program in 2024 and beyond, Annual Reports must include all records substantiating the organics tonnage reported.
Application: If this is your initial exemption application, please provide information on the types of materials your business generates and enter "0" in the "Tons Composted" fields.
Shared Services: If you are sharing services, please explain and provide documentation, proof, or a letter from the business you are sharing with providing permission to use services.
Contamination is any material that is not accepted in organics. For example, a potato chip bag is considered contamination if it is an organics bin.
Only required for accounts sharing services. Include documentation authorizing permission to use adjacent property's organics services or proof that services are shared.
I agree that my business must divert organics waste including food waste, food-soiled paper, and green waste from the trash. We will instruct employees and janitorial staff to place our organics material in the shared organics container.
"Yes" means there is an organics recycling plan and collection in place for all types of the material generated. "No" means the material is generated, but there is no organics collection method in place.
If two or more categories are mixed together for collection, click "Yes" and enter the same information for both. (i.e.: Food scraps and food-soiled paper are collected together and self-hauled to the Yolo County Landfill, you'd mark yes on both and enter Yolo County Landfill as the facility.)
Examples: packaged and unpackaged food, and food scraps from breakrooms.
Examples: landscaping debris, such as grass, weeds, and tree trimmings.
Examples: napkins, paper towels (including those from restrooms), and compostable paper plates.
Organics weight slips/tickets, receipts, manifests or other documentation proving tonnage is required. Please combine files into a single PDF.
If you are unable to upload the files here, you may submit them separately via email to recycle@cityofwoodland.gov.
